It sucked being in Iraq. It sucked worse when you have a birthday there. J gave me a nice birthday so I returned the favor for his friend Carole. He had asked me to create a card and I said I'd do an abstract rose. I don't think he really understood what I meant by "abstract" because he had a strange look to my suggestion but agreed anyway.

When I delivered the card, he was amazed. in fact, the praise he heaped upon me and my artistic ability was a bit embarrassing. I don't take praise well.

How did I come up with this? I had been thinking about my anniversary rose and the stock rose photos I had found. I saw a sample vase on the web and combined the two. It looked plain so I added the dot circle, my favorite element, to give it some symmetry. I put a little logo on the back of the card and J put his poem inside. I hope she liked it. Someday when I'm famous, she can say she had an original "Byron" and knew the artist back when he was a nobody.
