This drawing is filled with firsts. It is my: first use of oil pastels, first use of black paper, and my first use of my drawing techniques using realistic subjects and color.
I started this drawing by taking a pencil and lightly sketching an outline. Once satisfied, I did the background. The pastel seemed strange and not like the charcoal I had expected. It was smoother. I had to press harder to make solid areas due to the paper's texture. I liked the way the black paper came through and made the drawing.
Also of note, there are no hard lines in this drawing like my normal works. It felt good and gave me a free feeling to draw this. I had fun "seeing" the colors in the picture and mixing the basic colors I had to re-create the color on the paper. The whole drawing took an hour. I hope you like it as much as I do.
